Saints Celebration Black Tie Gala, Saturday, October 18, 2008 ~ Boston Marriott Copley Place was the setting for the Saints Celebration Black Tie Gala held Saturday, October 18. Over 700 guests, fashionably attired in gowns and tuxedos, gathered to enjoy a spectacular evening of cocktails, dinner and dance.
Joining Saints administration, physicians and staff in support of the event were members of the Greater Lowell community and local businesses and politicians. Funds raised will benefit Saints Medical Center and many of the exciting new initiatives planned for 2009 and beyond.
Guests enjoyed a lavish cocktail reception on the fourth floor atrium before entering the adjacent Grand Ballroom for the evening's celebration. Mike Kuenzler, president of Saints Foundation, welcomed the guests and provided an overview of the year's past events and achievements.
He then introduced President and CEO Michael Guley, who in a pre-taped video projected on large screens, spoke on the positive outlook at Saints for the coming year. Recently reaffirmed by the bond rating agency, Fitch, Saints is posturing itself strongly in the healthcare market. He noted the recruitment of 23 new physicians in the past 18 months; the new 3.0 MRI currently under construction on the Saints campus, which will offer the strongest Magnetic Resonance Imaging; our recent partnership with Massachusetts General Hospital to bring world-class radiology and imaging services to Saints; and construction of a new multi-story Cardio Vascular Center to include physician office space. In addition, the Saints Women's Center for Well Being will open in Andover early next year and will bring an entirely new level of service to the women in the Merrimack Valley. As well, a new primary care practice will open in Andover, adding to our recently opened Family Practice Centers in Tewksbury and Dracut.
Foundation Chairman George D. Behrakis spoke briefly and thanked all Saints supporters prior to introducing Father Nicholas Sannella, who gave the opening prayer.
Following a fabulous dinner of filet mignon with diver scallops wrapped in bacon, guests danced until midnight to the sounds of Manhattan Touch, one of New England's most sought-after premier bands.
It was a perfectly memorable evening that received outstanding reviews by all who attended.
