Message from the President and CEO

I'm pleased you've decided to visit this page. It gives me an opportunity to personally welcome you to Saints Medical Center.  From our main hospital, to our Cancer Center, to our dialysis centers, to our new Women’s Center for Health + Wellness and our vast network of primary care offices, Saints’ hospital system proudly offers the most exceptional and highest quality patient care provided by a community hospital in the Merrimack Valley. Our team of world class, board certified physicians, surgeons, hospitalists, radiologists, nurses, clinicians, volunteers, and a host of other specialists are among the most committed healthcare professionals you will find anywhere.

Saints is much more than the multiple award-winning hospital you’ve heard and read about; it’s a faith-based community under the sponsorship of the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa. The rich heritage and mission of Saints dates back to 1839 and serves as the foundation for inclusive and compassionate care. We take seriously this “Entrusted Legacy” of Catholic health care and strive to live it as we go about our daily rounds. I know you’ll feel that difference as soon as you come through our doors.

Our impressive level of quality care means that the days of having to travel all the way into Boston for health services are remnants of the past. Want the latest in diagnostic and treatment therapies? We’ve set the national standard with our innovative therapeutic hypothermia for heart attack victims. Saints is proud to be the first hospital in Massachusetts and the second in New England to offer dynamic new technology to improve the treatment of prostate cancer. Known as “GPS for the Body,” the Calypso 4D Localization System enables clinicians to more accurately target radiation therapy directly to the tumor with enhanced precision, helping to minimize damage to surrounding organs and tissue.

Saints Medical Center is working closely with Massachusetts General Hospital Imaging to provide advanced diagnostic imaging to the Merrimack Valley area. Saints Medical Center combines the most up-to-date digital equipment with the experience and specialized knowledge of onsite Massachusetts General imaging radiologists. This relationship allows Saints to offer minimally invasive, image-guided treatments for a variety of conditions, including aneurysm, uterine fibroids, and varicose veins.

We're also home base for the most innovative hip and knee replacement procedures. Saints’ orthopedic surgeons have pioneered a minimally invasive treatment for painful arthritis by recently performing one of the nation’s first patella resurfacing surgeries, an option when total knee replacement is too extreme and other treatments do not provide adequate pain relief. And remember, all this top quality medical care is available right here in Lowell!

The Caring Well Institute, sponsored by Saints, offers free seminars, workshops, conferences and lectures to the community. The Institute is also a training center for many clinical certification programs with national affiliations, including the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association, and the American Wound Association.

Saints also reaches out to the Lowell region through an active Foundation that is dedicated to fundraising and managing several community outreach programs. The work of the Foundation centers around a comprehensive program of special events, including a yearly gala and golf tournament, planned giving, memorial donations, major gifts, annual funds, and capital campaigns. Over the years, the Foundation has raised millions of dollars that go directly into expanded care and clinical excellence.

As president and CEO, I am excited and proud to lead Saints forward as we build on our impressive history of caring, healing and supporting the Lowell community. Come visit us, either in person or on the web, and you’ll see exactly what I mean.

Saints is truly “Your Lifeline to Good Health.”
