After surgery and preparing for discharge

Saints Medical Center takes pride it its post-surgical commitment to provide the necessary care prior to discharge. Immediately after surgery, patients are brought to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) where nurses and assistants monitor patients when they awaken from anesthesia. Those recovering from a more complex surgical procedure requiring a hospital stay are moved to a comfortable patient room where the transition from hospital to discharge begins. For day surgery patients, the surgeon determines when patients are ready for discharge following surgery and a brief recovery period in a private and comfortable setting.
