Dialysis
Dialysis is a medical procedure used to purify the blood by filtering contaminants out of the body. The kidney's purpose in the body is to remove wastes and toxins from the bloodstream. A damaged kidney cannot remove waste, a condition that may cause serious illness or death. Saints Medical Center provides hemodialysis and continuous ambulatory/cyclic peritoneal dialysis (CAPD/CCPD) at convenient locations throughout the Merrimack Valley area.
Saints recently opened a brand new 14,000 square foot dialysis center, conveniently located just off Route 495 on Lowell Research Drive. Named Saints Medical Center Dialysis, the facility is one of the largest non-profit dialysis centers in Massachusetts. With 32 state-of-the-art patient stations, including two isolation units, visitors are assured of a new level of comfort and privacy in addition to access to the latest equipment and enhanced support services.
The center is staffed with five board-certified nephrologists, including its medical director, Douglas Mesler, MD.
