• Shared decision-making
• Staff development and mentoring

The Clinical Advancement Program (CAP) at Saints Medical Center provides the registered nurse with a framework to attain the highest standard of professional practice and facilitate continued excellence in patient care. This program is based on the theoretical model and descriptive research published in From Novice to Expert by Patricia Brenner, RN, PhD, an internationally noted author, professor and researcher on nursing practice and education.

Program objectives:

  • To provide a professional environment for nursing practice and a positive work setting, which encourages professional growth and development to promote the delivery of excellence in patient care.
  • To provide a framework for the evaluation, recognition, and reward of clinical excellence.
  • To recognize autonomy, decision-making problem solving, and accountability as essential attributes of the professional nurse as they impact patient care.
  • To reflect the theoretical model and descriptive research published in From Novice to Expert by Patricia Benner, R.N., Ph.D.
  • Note: Progression into the advanced levels of this program (PNII and PNIII) allows nurses to grow professionally and accept new challenges while being rewarded with a compensation bonus.
