VICTOR POIRIER ELECTED CHAIRMAN
OF SAINTS MEDICAL CENTER BOARD OF TRUSTEES
LOWELL, Mass., December 16, 2010 – Saints Medical Center announced today that Victor Poirier has been elected new Chairman of the medical center’s Board of Trustees. Mr. Poirier, whose chairmanship is effective January 1, 2011, assumes the role from Gary Campbell. Mr. Campbell will remain a Board member.
Mr. Poirier, who will serve a one-year term, is founder and former CEO of Thermo Cardiosystems, Woburn, and currently serves as Chief Technology Advisor to Thoratec Corp., Burlington. Thoratec is a world leader in device-based mechanical circulatory support therapies for the heart. He has been a member of the Saints board since 1998.
Said Mr. Poirier, “I am grateful for the support of my Board colleagues in helping guide the hospital’s operations going forward. My commitment is to ensure that Saints Medical Center remains a vital part of the health care delivery system in the Merrimack Valley for the long term. I intend to work collegially with the Board, senior management, the medical staff, employees, and everyone in the community to fulfill our mission.”
Mr. Campbell, Chief Operating Officer, Campbell Real Estate, Lowell, has been on the Saints Board for a decade and has served as Chairman for the past five years. Mr. Campbell said, “It has been an honor to serve as Saints’ Board Chair. My family’s involvement with the hospital and its predecessor institutions goes back decades. As a Lowell native who is highly active in the community, Victor is an excellent choice for this role. I look forward to working closely with him and everyone on the Board.”
Commenting on the announcement, Stephen J. Guimond, Saints Interim President and Chief Executive Officer, said, “Everyone associated with Saints Medical Center owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to Gary for his tireless efforts on behalf of the health system. As dramatic changes occur in the community hospital environment, Gary’s knowledge, judgment, and community involvement are assets that Saints values deeply.
