SAINTS HEALTH SYSTEM PREPARING
TO OPEN NEW WOMEN’S CENTER FOR HEALTH + WELLNESS

New State-of-the-Art Facility in North Andover will Provide Wide Range of Women’s Health Services in a Contemporary Spa-Like Setting; Open House for Public on February 6

LOWELL, Mass., February 1, 2010 – Michael G. Guley, Saints Health System President and CEO, today announced that Saints will soon open a new comprehensive Women’s Center for Health + Wellness in nearby North Andover.

The completely refurbished, multi-million-dollar Center at 203 Turnpike Street will expand and enhance the existing women’s health care services now offered at the Saints Medical Center complex in Lowell, and broaden Saints’ reach into additional cities and towns along the Route 495/Route 93 corridor.

While the formal opening is expected some time in early February, Saints has scheduled a series of open houses, including one for the public on Saturday, February 6, from 1 to 4 p.m.

In making the announcement, Mr. Guley said, “Market research indicates that the health care services to be offered at the new Women’s Center are in line with patients’ present-day needs. Our expansion in this area is consistent with our strategic plan to invest in programs and services that ensure patients receive the best care available in the Merrimack Valley.”

Dr. Julie Jones, Board Certified, fellowship-trained breast surgeon, who will serve as medical director at the Center, added, “Saints is proud of its ability to stay current in providing specialized care to women of all ages and backgrounds. As women’s needs continue to change and grow, our clinical staff will provide services in a setting that is highly functional, comfortable, private, and contemporary.”

According to Saints officials, the new Center will continue to serve existing patients being treated by the medical staff and draw new female patients from a number of local communities, including Lowell, Dunstable, Tyngsboro, Dracut, Billerica, Chelmsford, Tewksbury, Westford, Methuen, and others.

The new 10,000-square-foot Center will include a large spa-like reception area with WiFi capability, well-appointed locker rooms, multiple exam/treatment rooms, a multi-purpose procedure room, imaging area, and on-site free parking.

Advanced Imaging Technology

The Women’s Center is working with Massachusetts General Hospital to provide unparalleled expertise in imaging services. Dr. Elizabeth Rafferty, Director of the Breast Imaging Division at Massachusetts General Hospital, said, “We are excited to work with Saints in this state-of-the-art facility. We share their commitment to bring quality care to the surrounding communities.”

The new Center offers digital mammography equipped with computer aided detection (CAD) and bone densitometry, which can scan both hips at the same time, examine further up to the thoracic spine, as well as examine body composition and percentage of body fat. The site also features the latest in ultrasound and stereotactic technology.

Dr. Bill Chun, MD, FACOG and Dr. Robert Joseph, MD, FACOG, who are continuing to practice at Saints Medical Center in Lowell, will also provide full-time services at the North Andover facility. They will offer a full range of gynecological services designed to meet the needs of women throughout their life spans.

The architect on this project was DiGiorgio Associates of Boston.  The interior design firm was Currier & Associates of Newburyport.  The construction manager was JK Blackstone General Contractors of Boston.

The official address of the new Center is 203 Turnpike Street, North Andover, MA, 01845.  For more information, please contact Sharon Galvin, RN, Saints Director of Women’s Health Services, 978-934-8598.
